31DC2015 Day 12 - Film - Reservoir Dogs

Hi Goddesses

I think I've said before, I hate film / TV / music prompts. Not because there isn't stuff I love, just because it's really hard to be put on the spot and think of something suitable at the right time.

It's a miracle I came up with this one!  I Googled film posters, and initially saw The Blues Brothers.  I knew I had ties and sunglasses from Loki's Nail Vinyls, and that was going to be my plan, until on the next row I saw .... Reservoir Dogs.

Never having wanted to watch Blues Brothers, but full of stun and awe for Reservoir Dogs, my choice was made.   It's the most breathless and wrecked I have ever felt in a cinema, and I remember it being 3 or 4 days before I could shake off the impact the film had on me.

I used my Loki's Nail Vinyls for the ties, and then did some splattering with diluted red polish.   I tried to paint the ear but yeh, me and painting, so in the end I homaged that scene with a switchblade.

I'm actually quite thrilled with how this one turned out.

Neon Week - Splatter!

Hi Goddesses

Today I have a neon splatter for you, and words cannot express how much I loved wearing this mani, or how fabulous it looked.

Unfortunately, now, in photos, all I see is the really messy clean up (and man I scrubbed at this for hours) and somehow, none of the photos seem to convey the intense HAPPY of this mani.

Let's start at the top, with the polishes.  White base, and then 4 colours - OPI Roll In The Hague, China Glaze Papaya Punch, China Glaze Hang-ten Toes and w7 Fuchsia.  I was going to do you a posh photo of them, but decided to show you how they look amongst the continual clutter of my nail desk!

I absolutely LOVED how this splatter fell on my nails, and the colour collision was just perfect.

Those cuticles though - I am so sorry.   I don't think I appreciated how much harder the neons might be to remove lol, and despite spending ages on, just couldn't get those last bits out.  I think my clean up brush just lost the will to live in the end.   In real life, they weren't so noticeable; in photos - yikes.   Still, I don't believe in Photoshopping my pics (don't even know how to) and I know you like to see when even I make a big mess.  I'm just bummed it detracts from the overall awesome.

Don't forget to check out the other Luscious Ladies - enjoy xx :)

Digit-al Dozen DOES Geek Week - Dexter

Hi Goddesses

Aaaah, Dexter :)

For the last couple of months, I have been obsessed with the TV show that is Dexter.  I have quite an annoying streak, in that if I miss the first episode or series of a programme, I won't watch the rest, so it's taken me a while to find a friend who would lend me the entire box set and let me devour it in one great big happy chunk.

There are sooooo many things I love about this series, from the deadpan narration, to the way the actors ARE the characters, the expert plotting, the intriguing moral compass on which it sits .... it's all just .. so delicious!

I've seen a lot of Dexter manis, and most of them are excuses to splatter red polish on a white background.  I deliberately wanted to go in a different, deeper direction, and I rejected a LOT of ideas to bring you today's mani.  Not to give anything away, but let's just say I may have had a whole week's worth .....

Thumb - OPI At First Sight (2 coats) with a big dollop of Sally Hansen Red Handed.  This is a blood slide, but not just any blood slide.  This is the one Brian / Rudy marked in Dexter's collection.

Index - OPI Don't Talk Bach to Me, Konad dark green and MJ3.  This is Batista and his "subtle" shirts :)

Middle - OPI My Vampire is Buff and Sally Hansen Red Handed.  Blood splatter.  Nuff said.

Ring - Sally Hansen Red Handed.  The blood oozing out of the sliced cheek.  I thought long and hard about whether to paint my nails a skin colour and go for a more "real" look.  I'm quite glad I didn't.

Pinkie - OPI The It Color, black acrylic paint.  The yellow Do Not Cross crime scene tape.  I couldn't fit all the words in, but I figured that as Dexter is ALWAYS stepping over the line, I could drop the "do not" :)

So, What Are My 5 Favourite Dexter Moments?

* the first episode - I loved the tone it set, and especially the narration.  Such a special show.

* the end of the first season with all it's revelations

* the end of season 4 - THANK GOD.  I won't give anything away, but wow it made me happy.

* the character of Deb - wow, what a female character

* LaGuerta's wardrobe - man she can rock those hot tones!

* sorry, I'll replace that with something more worthy :)  The final episode, and the final beat, of season 6.

In the UK we are shockingly behind - we're only on episode 3 of season 7 .... This is the first time I will have watched it in bite sized chunks, and I'm not coping very well lol.  I like my Dexter in big doses!

Enjoy xx :)

NEW31DC Day 4 - Pink

Hi Goddesses

Today I am what you call a Chuffty.  Maybe even a Chuffty Cat.  That means I am very "chuffed" with today's mani - chuffed is a British word for "well pleased with meself".  Lol.

This is one of those lovely accidents that just *happened* with no planning or forethought.  The only thing I really decided on was that the pink I used should be an untried so Color Club Wing Fling, here we are.

I really liked the Color Club Take Wing Collex from last summer.  I feel it got way overshadowed by the kerpow from the CG Neons, but this was an amazing collection of summer brights with glass-flecked electrical sizzle.

Wing Fling though, has left me a little cold.  I admit, it looks sensational in these photos, everything a hot pink should be, but in real life, I just wasn't feeling it.  I think it was actually a little too electric for me and felt almost flourescent.  Shame.

So then I thought I'd do a pink splatter, with a bit of black in it to make it rock n roll and ..... OMG I LOVE THIS SO MUCH !!!

I honestly can't tell you how happy I am with how this turned out.  It's bright, it's zappy, and it's just got that little edge to it.  Awesome.

I used OPI Sparrow Me The Drama and Black Onyx and one of my favourite pinks, CG Traffic Jam ... and a very special tool.  I am now going to share with you why this came out with extra awesome in it.

You know how sometimes when you do a splatter mani, the polish lands too heavy ?  You get a great big fat dollop of polish that obliterates half the nail ?  Well, when that happened with THIS mani, I took a cotton bud, and gently lifted some of the excess off.  You can't really tell where I did it, but you can tell the texture is different in some areas, and I really like that.

Ok tomorrow is purple ... damn ... I don't know if I even HAVE a purple !!!  Lol.

Love xx

Summer Challenge Day 23 - Blue, Aqua and Green

Hi Goddesses

Today's challenge allows us to cool off and wear the breezy, sea toned colours of summer - blue, aqua and green.  I'm really hoping someone's done a water marble today, because those colours blend so perfectly.

Talking of which, I am in water marble hell.  I STILL can't get my polish to spread.  I don't know if there's too many chemicals in the water or what but AAARRRGGHHHH lol.

So today I went for a splatter, which is one of my favourite types of manis.  They're fun to do (because you can't really predict how it will turn out) and they ALWAYS make me smile.  Don't know why, but they make me happy :)

The polishes were Nails Inc Baker Street as the base coat, and then splatters of Essence Bella and CG For Audrey.   I ended up with 1 or 2 aqua splatters that were too big lol, so I ended up having to go back over them with Bella.  Since then, I've switched to narrower straws, and it's making a huge difference.

So, short and sweet today - the next 2 challenges are disasters, so you might want to stay away lol.  Not really.  Well, yes, really .. maybe ...

Enjoy xx:)
