HALLOWE’EN WEEK – Witches Tights

I have a great mani for you today – it’s basically a taped mani (my first proper one where I attempted straight lines) in darkening shades of purple that eventually end in a stripe of black.  It’s a mani I would have wanted to do anyway, but it also reminded me of the tights a witch might wear lol.

The colours here started with a base of China Glaze LOL, a medium to dark purple holo.  I only started with this cos I was swatching it anyway!  Then we have a NYX electric blurple called Midnight Amethyst, the amazing Ready to Pounce from Wet n Wild’s On The Prowl Collection, and finally, SH Black Out.

You’ll need to be gentle with my first attempt, but it’s not too bad.  I didn’t quite get the polish to the sides of the nail, so I ended up doing something refilling with a thin dotting tool, just to level the stripes out.

I really love this combination – Ombre Striped Gradient? – and I can see it working well with a lot of colours.  The Ready To Pounce is really hard to photograph, and it’s only in the sunshine pics that you can really tell there are 4 stripes.

I then wanted to go one step further, and what better glitter to use at Hallowe’en than NOPI Pitch-Black Glimmer, which is literally coal dust in a bottle.  I love the overall effect this added – almost like black sparkly cobwebs.

HALLOWE’EN – Witch’s Ugly Water Marble

I wanted to do a water marble for Hallowe’en and knew what I wanted to do.  As so often with water marbles, this isn’t EXACTLY what I had in mind lol,  but it still works in my head.

My aim was for a black base with a dark pink and dark purple stripe in it, and a very thin white or silver one.  I wanted to create a really nocturnal flower design.  In my head, I kept seeing Morticia Addams lopping those rose buds off the stems, so I wanted something dark and twisted enough that she would wear it.

This went wrong / right in my choice of base colour – Zoya’s Lael.  I chose a dark purple because it has going to feature heavily in my pattern and I didn’t want to use a black base.  What I didn’t factor in was that the darkness of the base would make the white in the marble go so murky …..however, this does give it quite a “dead flesh” feel, so I can live with that mistake.

My 4 marbling colours were Zoya Demi (a mid purple), Sally Hansen Hot Magenta (a medium bright pink), SH White On and SH Black Out.

I really feel this ended up EXACTLY like the sort of water marble a witch would wear!  It’s dark, it’s depressing – it sure didn’t make me happy to wear.  It’s so ugly, it’s almost perfect for Hallowe’en.  I do like how the colours swirled together in such dark harmony, and from some angles, there’s a lot of blackcurrants and cream going on!

Lol … nearing the end of the Hallowe’en posts now.  Just a couple more to go – another Franken (the one that made me happy to sacrifice CG Crystal Ball), China Glaze It’s Alive, CG Mummy May I, purple witch’s tights (my fave) and a secret water marble to end it all on Monday.

And then, prepare yourselves for some FIREWORKS!!!!!!!!!

Sally Hansen’s Complete Salon Manicure range is fast becoming one of my favourites.  Great colours with intense pigmentation, fabulous bottle, BIG brush (which I can now, finally, control) and more shine than a can of polish can shake a stick at.  They are fabulous all rounders, and I love them deeeeeply.

This is Commander In Chic, another purchase on my search for The Perfect Taupe, which was eventually won by another Sally Hansen, CONCRETE.  Commander In Chic is also perfect, in its own way, but a very different kind of pretty to Concrete, having none of that polish’s whimsy or etherealness.

Commander in Chic is a lovely taupe.  Think chocolate milkshake, and you’re not far off.   Not too grey, not too brown, not too smoky, this is just about Goldilocks heaven.

There’s a milkiness to this that’s quite heavenly, and it’s what gives it that perfect base.  It allows the colour to flood in, and then be bled out ever so slightly, calming it down to this pure taupe perfect storm.

Lovely polish, totally elegant, totally glam and utterly divine.  Although I’ve found perfection, I’m keeping this as a back-up J

Ah, purple’s back, back, BACK baby J  I can’t express how happy it makes me to be back in purple after Blues Week J  There’s just something about it that makes me feel so …. me, and this purple is making me happier than most.

Sally Hansen PLUM LUCK is from the Complete Salon Manicure range and that means awesome bottle, BIG brush and lush glossy shininess (all the photos are 2 coats, no top coat).

Plum Luck is an amazing colour.  A deep damson with a hint of brown to take any blue or black away – this is gorgeous pure pigment.  There are almost some burgundy tones in there too, just hushing it down a little and keeping it between the lines.

This is one of the most serious purples I own.  It’s just .. holy wow!  It’s deep, it’s dark, it’s delicious.  It’s rock chick, evil vampire queen, vampy, bitchy, vibrant, ALIVE, passionate and a little S&M.

This is pure deliciousness.  If someone told me I had to wear this every day, I wouldn’t complain.  This is also on the edge of perfection – very dark, but without losing its purple heart.  How many purples have we seen tumble over the edge?  Well this woman holds firm in Purple Country, defending her farm and her man from all who threaten her.

This is a pure power play polish – it’s amazing.  It has strength, confidence, and va-va-vooooooom.

I am in love!  Holy Moly one-and-only nail polish love!  Here, ladies, is Sally Hansen Concrete.

Concrete – such an uninspiring name.  One of the most drab things in the universe that I can think of, and responsible for more ugly buildings in the UK than is possible to count.  But as a nail varnish ?  Oh.  My.  God.

Sally Hansen Concrete is delicious.  She’s soft, she’s feminine, she’s subtle – she’s awesome!  Concrete is a super-soft fairy-lite taupe with barely there lilac overtones.  She’s like a pastel version of one of my all-time faves, OPI’s Parlez Vous OPI.

The perfect taupe is one of my polish Holy Grails, and Concrete has just about ended it.  She’s such a perfect blend of the cool and the warm, the aloof and the luscious, the greige and the lilac.  This is one delicious babe.

I only put this on to test it, and now I don’t want to take it off!  Seasonally, she’s an all-rounder, taupey enough for fall, lilacy enough for summer.  She’s formal, she’s fun, she’s work, she’s a weekender.

Like all SH’s Concrete is super-glossy – you could easily go without top coat.  Wow, I am just awestruck by the beauty of this colour.  Effortless application, super shiny, and indescribably, dreamily beautiful – what more could a girl want ?

Concrete goes straight into my almost completed Top 10.  She’s a winner in every way, and pretty much damned perfect.
