Simples Week 13 - Skittled Dotticure

We're very near the end of our plain dotting rotation now on Simples - just one more week to go and then we're into how to use dotting tools for great nail art.

Today's mani is super simple - and actually quite plain.  However the skittle effect does give it a fun twist.

I've chosen to do my skittle through different base polish colours (all mine are the reds from the new Gwen Stefani Collection), but you could skittle the dot colours OR the style of the dots.

I have to say, I was totally blown away by the black on red combo here, but here some other ways you can skittle -

Literary Lacquers Skittle - Aunt Beast meets Megatron

As I've mentioned, I had the best time a few weeks ago playing with the new Wrinkle In Time collection from Literary Lacquers.  All the polishes play with each other so nicely that nail art was BOUND to happen.

This is the first of many, and it's so simple, it might just be my favourite.

This features Aunt Beast and the purple drama of Megatron (which is slightly muted by sitting on Auntie's base).   I especially love how gritty Aunt Beast looks in these photos.  She's completely smooth to the touch, but I love how she looks a little bit dirty.

I did some zig zag chevrons using my nail stickers, and then did something I don't often do - picked out some matching rhinestones for the other nails.

Top tip - I obeyed the Nailasaurus and used tweezers to place my stickers.  It really was easier, and much simpler to get them to move 1mm to the left too!

The Digit-al Dozen DOES Brands - OPI and Gwen Stefani

Wow, this week is ZIPPING by, which is good, cos it means I am feeling better finally, and we are careening into a full-on weekend of nail play!!

Today's DD post is about When Brands Collide.  OPI is arguably the world's biggest nail brand, and in recent years, it has become expert at partnering with other brands to double its market appeal - films, Disney, music.

The most recent collab had super-cool written all over it, and although I initially thought they were boring, I'm glad I DID buy the OPI Gwen Stefani polishes, because they are a triumph of colour AND texture.

The 3 polishes are a gorgeous glossy pink - Hey Baby, a matte gold - Love, Angel, Music, Baby, and a matte black - 4 In The Morning.

All the polishes are sensational, but what I really love is the pay-off between them, and I think this skittle really highlights both the drama and the wow factor of these polishes.

There is nothing complex about any of these nails lol - basically they're plain, simple dots, or the Nailasaurus Waterfall (which may look fancy, but is simplicity itself).

So, totally in love with my skittle (felt quite cool and fierce wearing it lol), and hats off to OPI (STILL on their great roll) and Gwen Stefani, who if she were bottled, would have a temperature cooler than ice.

Digit-al Dozen DOES Skittles - Purple with OPI Baby Please Come Home

Day 2 of Skittles Week is a purple mani-fest that I am actually really chuffed with.  This rocked!

This mani started with me wearing one of the new OPI Mariah Carey Liquid Sands - Baby Please Come Home.  It's quite a strange but beautiful polish in that it shifts colour a little when you're not looking.  You can see it in all its glory later in the week.

I paired it with an untried (LACC 1972, a sugary lilac) and a much loved polish, Barry M Blackberry.

The middle finger is loosely inspired by THIS TUTORIAL on One Nail To Rule Them All's page - I didn't go as complex as Alice, but I still love the shapes.

Because I did the middle nail first, I wanted to keep an angular and sharp theme, so I deliberately avoided dots and swirls. I did some stripey swipey lines and then a herringbone pattern on my thumb.

Hey, it's PURPLE, of course I love it :)
