As an impulsive and compulsive shopaholic, I often make mistakes.  I'll buy things, decide I can live without them, sell them, and then a few weeks / months later go "maaaaan, I wish I'd kept that".  Lol.   Welome to Yara's story.

I originally bought Yara when Smoke and Mirrors came out, and agreed she was stunning.  However, at that time, I rarely wore anything other than purple, red, or pink on my nails, and I decided I didn't need Yara AND Dree.  Whilst I thought Yara was undoubtedly the better polish of the 2, I decided to keep Dree because I thought she would be more versatile for nail art.   So, I put her on ebay, she got snapped up immediately, and even as I was wrapping her up to send to her new mommy, I already felt regret.

So, fast forward 5 months, and me and Yara meet again, and this time she's not going ANYWHERE lol.   I'd forgotten how truly beautiful she is.  Stunning, actually.

As I'm sure you know by now, Yara is a gorgeous olive green, yellow-toned, with flecks of gold.  What I never noticed before is that sometimes those flecks look coppery too.   Yara is the colour of weeds, and it's amazing that a colour that could have looked so wrong, ended up looking sooooooooo right, all because the Zoya Fairies got heavy with the gold dust.

Yara - gorgeous.  If you don't do green or would only ever buy one, this is your one.

Purple Crumpet Fairy Challenge - GlitterBOMB!

This week's Challenge was Glitterbomb, something I have yet to successfully do, and it bugs the crap out of me that I haven't mastered it yet.  It involves glitter.  Lots of glitter.  More glitter than they sell in the biggest Glittery Shop in Glitterland on National Glitter Day.   Myself, I OWN enough glittery polishes to be that shop, and yet I suck at Glitterbombs.  Major harrumph.

I've yet to find a brilliant combination, probably because a lot of my glitters are of very similar densities, and the best glitterblombs are the ones that have varied layers.  Anyway, I birthed an audacious idea and, well, this was either going to be a triumph or total carnage!

I decided to do something that clashed, and picked a base of Zoya Yara, a deliciously weed coloured green with gold and copper flecks, 

layered on some PINK LA Splash in Sparkling Fushia, 

and then added some NYX Prismatic Gold to re-emphasise the original gold flecks in the Yara and FINALLY 

a layer of Finger Paints Motley, to just confuse it all a little.

Oh yes, and I only did it on one nail.  Whaaaaaaaaaaaaat?  Yes, Crumpet learnt from what other people do, and only did it as an accent, and confused though I still am about whether it's a success or not, I think it looks loads better for only being an accent.

So there you have - Subtle Crumpetage - not often that happens lol.

Nails I Love

ZOYA – The Greens – Dree, Yara, Gemma, Edyta

So, we know greens aren’t my favourite, but I like Edyta (see previous blog) for its crazy antique vibe, and I loved the look of Gemma and THEN I was even excited to see Dree and Yara in the Smoke & Mirrors Collection – what is going on with me ??  Lol.  So here we go ….

Dree (from the Smoke Collection) is beautiful.  A glossy olive, this is just lush, ripe and swoonsome.  It’s a perfect camouflage green.  I don’t know how Zoya made such a drab colour look super-glam, but they did.

Gemma is dreamy and divine.  A super delicate sage green, this is full of gossamer shimmer that gives it a fairy-lightness of touch, at once giving it depth, and bleaching excess colour away.  This is a great colour if you’re shy of trying of green, it’s just so subtle and submissive.

Yara is from the Mirrors Collection and well, I could fall in love with Yara quite easily.  At first glance this is just Dree-with-gold-dust, but it’s a little bit more special than that.  It’s slightly darker than its Smoke Sister, and has a touch less olive to it.  It is jam-packed with gold micro-dust (just as Edyta is) and on the nail, well it just DEFIES categorisation.  It’s dark ..ish, but not over-powering; it’s full of gold, yet not sparkly or glittery; Yara is just a mass of beautiful contradictions.
