I am so happy – I am loving Tangled In My Web every bit as much as I hoped I would – and more!

I love its simplicity and its versatility.

Just for fun I decided to paint some skittle nails and take a look at how it worked against the rainbow.  I used

• Color Club – unknown neon blue
• China Glaze – Life Preserver – burnt orange
• China Glaze – Spontaneous – purple
• Color Club – unknown neon pink
• China Glaze – Papaya Punch

I think the most, I love it against the purple – there is just a beautiful purity.

The only downside to TIMW is that it’s not the easiest to apply, and you do have to make an effort to spread it all over the nail.

And then, as we had the skittles out, I decided to do a bit of crackling.  I am loving crackle so much now that we’re in the darker season.

My favourite crackle is China Glaze, and this is their black, Black Mesh.  Theirs just seems to shatter into bigger pieces, with wider gaps, which is my favourite shatter effect.

I am now officially in Hallowe’en countdown, mainly because I get to wear loads of ace vampy colours!

Today I have CHINA GLAZE Crystal Ball which I think came from the same Hallowe’en Collection as Fortune Teller.  CB is basically a dark vampy burgundy with loads of holographic dust thrown in.  This was a free gift from the amazing Janet at Boulder Creek Boutique.   Here we go …

I have to say, most of the images my crack dealer found for me (ie Google images) are quite poor, and really don’t do it justice.  This is a lovely serene autumnal burgundy, not too dark, and there is a floaty quality to it – really, it just doesn’t have that impenetrable darkness that a lot of burgundys have.

The holo dust is barely there in some lights, and then like fairy babies twinkling in others.  It’s subtle, and doesn’t detract from the winey colour of the base polish. 

Personally I love it.  I think this is a great colour for autumn – luscious, slightly decayed and ever so nocturnal.

AUTUMN WATER MARBLE

Ooh what a busy week!  Hope you’re well, whatever you’re doing.

Today I have photos of the water marble I’ve worn for the last 2 days and which I have absolutely loved the pants off!  I am so in love with this mani.  I’m also quite proud of myself because this is only my 3^rd ever attempt at a water marble (the first was my birthday purple one, and the 2^nd was a disaster!)

Beth wasn’t around at the weekend, so I had to do this All By Myself!  Gasp lol.  My original idea was to do a Muppets marble as those were the colours I had spent the weekend swatching.  I really wanted to use Animal-istic, Meep Meep Meep, and Pepe’s Purple Passion, but they just would not have it!  I think the flecking made them too heavy to spread out or something, so I had to revert to Plan B.

My amazing substitutes were CG Life Preserver (a perfect burnt orange), OPI Vodka & Caviar for the red, and OPI Catherine the Grape – a browny purple.  I had already put on a base coat of Animal-istic.

It’s not so much my water marbling talent that I am in awe of as the mix of these colour.  There’s something about the clash of them that is just Bang On and So Right.  The Life Preserver deserves a special award for outstanding contribution – just look at how wow it looks.  Catherine the Grape was the perfect contrast polish and may favourite nails are the ones where those 2 colours dominate.

Against them, Vodka & Caviar didn’t have a chance, poor love, but I do like the way I could see Animal-istic’s sparkle through the red – a magical added benefit.

The nails I am most proud of?  Left thumb, left index and middle (the first 3 that I did) and the right middle, where I managed to create an amazing swirly thing. 

Now, here’s the thing I still can’t get right – the plonking!  Or, to give it its more technical term, the placing of the nail EXACTLY where you want it in the bullseye.  Look at those awesome patterns that landed on the tape!!  I would have wet myself with delight if I had gotten them onto the nail!!

Oh and finally …. The photos.  Due to autumn closing in, my only current access to direct light is when I am in the car, so YES, these pictures were taken on my journey to and from work.  Mostly, when I was stuck in traffic and not moving, but there is the occasional action shot thrown in for good measure!

Green Nails for Depression Awareness Month

GREEN = October is Depression Awareness Month

So as you know, I don’t really do green but I really really wanted to do something for Depression Awareness Month.  As someone who has suffered with depression on and off for probably half my life, I couldn’t let the occasion go un-noted. 

So I made a special effort.  I don’t own many greens – Zoya Dree (which didn’t match what I had in mind), CG Starboard (see here for her own post), OPI Stranger Tides, a KleanColor glitterbomb and a wee Color Club called UNDER THE MISTLETOE – pure green liquid sparkle.

I almost did this as part of Blue Week, but didn’t really have any other ideas for the greens, so stole it ha ha.  It started with the idea of copying the famous mummy nails that Nailside does so brilliantly, but as usual, I improvised a little (well, quite a lot) and did something different for each nail.

I love the thumb, and the index finger, and have plans to make these into full manis.  I used a dotting tool for all the effects (I personally prefer them to brushes, but I’m weird).

They feel a little Christmassy to me - this is probably the artiest nails I have ever done (I have a LONG way to go).

CHINA GLAZE – Starboard

This one is very short and sweet.

China Glaze Starboard is pretty much your perfect emerald green.  It’s vibrant, rich and deep without being too dark – this retains it’s cheerful brightness.   I’m not a green girl when it comes to nails, and I only bought this for nail art.  Still, it’s a really pretty colour.

This is a real fern green – it makes me feel very Irish just looking at it.

BLUE SPECTRUM

For some reason, I am obsessed with what I call “Lollipop Nails”.  Basically, 3 stripes of colour, swirled with a toothpick. I think it's because, like me, it's very simple :)  I have no idea if it has a more proper name, but I like the name lollipop!

As part of Blue Week I wanted to do a Lollipop and I decided to do one not in 3 shades of blue, but using the colours next to blue in the spectrum – green and purple.

The blue is CHINA GLAZE First Mate (a tealy-navy-royal blue blend), CHINA GLAZE Starboard (a real emerald green) and ZOYA Mira (impossible to describe – purple ice cream?).

My camera hates photographing purple, and of all the purples in the world it REALLY hates Mira lol, so these photos are less than perfect, and they do lose some of the effect.

In person, the effect is weird, but I LIKE IT.  From a distance, the nails look a petrol purple, and as you get closer, the individual colours start to stand out.  These 3 colours all have the same intensity and work really well together.

They remind me a little of Wimbledon colours!  It’s a very rich, dark, Victorian, peacocky kind of combination.

I hoped to be able to show you that some of the nails have different patterns, but the camera just wasn’t having it (how rude is that!) but you do have another rare appearance of the Full Paw Shot – enjoy!
