Franken Time – Witches Brew

This is the first franken Beth and I made together, and we made this a few weeks ago, but I’ve been saving it for Hallowe’en.

As you know, I’m a purple whore, and I wanted to franken something that was purple and witchy, but I knew I didn’t want glitter in there to gay it up any.

My magic ingredient turned out to be Sinful Colors HOTTIE an amazing bright blue blitz of glitter, and when I added it to my purple, well the best EVER kind of fireworks happened J

For my purple, I picked China Glaze LET’S GROOVE which is one of my favourites.  I picked it cos it’s got a lot of movement in it, and it’s not just one block tone.  Once the Hottie was added, it did literally take my breath away.  Can you see the sparks ?

The Hottie did whatever magic it did, and now we have sparks of blue, purple, gold, orange, green  - all doing their thing in an utterly magical way.

As you can imagine, this was a bit of a witch to photograph lol, and a lot of them look navy.  The base colour is actually a really cold purple with flashes of violet – this is like a purple midnight sky in WitchLand.

I am so so so so soooooo pleased with how this turned out.  I absolutely love it.

Pink Nails for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

This week’s PAA theme is PINK and pretty much straight away I knew what I wanted to do.  I really like one of the patterns I did for last week’s Blue Monday and thought I would spread it over a whole mani.

This is 2 layers of Sinful Colors’ Forget Now, an insanely sparkly hot pink jelly, Confetti’s First Kiss, and in the centre, Barry M’s Raspberry.  Slightly annoyed with my camera, as it’s just not picking up the electric sparkle that crackles through FORGET NOW like voltage.  To be fair tho, it is dark, dingy and overcast here in England, so I suppose it had a challenge on it’s hands!

As you can see, I went for the pattern I had on my left thumb in Blue Monday – a wide circle of dots, with a smaller circle or “splodge” to give it it’s technical term lol, in the middle.

I do like it – it’s very bright and happy and takes me back to summer.  Howeverrrrrr, it’s not quite how I pictured it in my head, probably because I didn’t use a pale enough colour.

Here goes, in my head, this would have looked a little more like boobies J with a paler circle of dots.  Even the Barry M was wrong – too dark to be the nipple!

So there you have it – a fun idea gone bad, but if I squint and pretend I wanted a psychedelic summer look, I am SO there J

SINFUL COLORS – Daddy’s Girl

…or, The Disappointment That Turned To Triumph.

Just look at the bottle and that colour.  Isn’t it amazing ?  Isn’t it the darkest, most devilish, Halloweeniest purple you’ve ever seen ?  Dark midnight base, flashes of violet, gold electro-static – could anything ever look as gorgeous?

No.  On the nail, Daddy’s Girls was SUCH a disappointment.  Don’t get me wrong, it was still beautiful in its own way, but just Not Like The Bottle.  The darkness just doesn’t translate.  On the nail, this became an electric violet, still WOW, but just Not Like The Bottle.

This applies about 5 shades lighter than the bottle, and also is extremely thin.  I needed 3 coats and I STILL have VNL in certain lights.  Next time I might layer it over Zoya Pinta to try and recreate the bottle J

Don’t get me wrong, this is still fabulously witchy, very glam, very devilish, just … yeh, yeh, but the bottle is my perfect purple, hence my despair.

So, I decided to have a little bit of fun before I took it off, inspired by Let Them Have Polish.  She did a Grape, Set & Match and Wing It! Combo, and as Daddy’s Girl isn’t a million miles different from Grape, I decided to add some irregular pink tips.  (this is her post - http://www.letthemhavepolish.com/2011/08/opi-wing-it-grape-set-match-spongy.html)

So far, so meh.  But THEN, oh then I added KleanColor AURORA to half the nail (and heavier at the tip) and Oh My God, some serious magic occurred.  In the bottle, Aurora is a girlie baby pink glitter.  On the nail .. she turns holographic, the glitter turns gold and green and blue and, oh my, she makes me lose my breath.

So randomly, I ended up with something that just reminds me of an Arabian night.  I can see sheer violet harem pants and lots of gold chains and a marquee style tent.  Love it.

If you haven’t discovered KleanColor yet, do it NOW!  They’re cheap but amazing.  Go on, put some sparkle in your life J
