Work Wear Wednesday - CROWS TOES Bone Daddy

Hi Goddesses

A slightly unconventional choice today for Work Wear Wednesday, but it's wintry out there, so what the hell !

The lovely Lauri from Crows Toes sent me the entire Halloween Collection, and whilst I'd already bought some (the ones I've shown you already), some I hadn't, and this is the second of the 2 that I am reviewing on her behalf.

Bone Daddy ..... I think I need to give this some play time before I totally make my mind up.  So far, I like what I've seen, I'm just wondering how much further I can push him lol.

Bone Daddy is a milky spectral soup, choc full of hex glitter of various sizes and bar glitter.  I imagine if you were REALLY awesome, you could line a bar up between 2 hexes to make a bone lol.

Usually these glitters are limited to similar coloured bases, and that's why I want to have a bit more playtime.  I layered this over KIKO 329, a lovely delicate barely-grey, and I wish I'd had time to see how it played over lilac and pale blue in particular.

Now, I have owned glitters similar to this in the past, none of which looked good over anything other than the most bland colour.  However, BD has a little secret - it also has luminescent flakies which flash violet when you're not looking, and disappear when you do a double take :)   If you're really quick, you can see them in some of the photos.  (Ignore the yellow though, I think that's the polar opposite of the violet, and it's only the camera that's captured it; it certainly wasn't visible in real life).

Lauri has confirmed that all her Halloweenies will become part of the core line because "let's face it, it's always Halloween at the Crow Bar."  I LOVE that sentiment :)

This polish was sent to me for an honest review.

Enjoy xx :)

Halloweenie - The Polish Bar - Pumpkin Fairy

Hi Goddesses

I have lusted after Indie brand The Polish Bar for the looooooooongest time, but sadly, she doesn't ship internationally.  But one phenomenal swap with my lovely Katee later ..... you can colour me happy !!!

Pumpkin Fairy is like a tiger had a fight with a disco ball.  Orange, black and insanely holographic glitter battle in a rich marmalade base and then do discotastic battle once they're on the nail.  Wow !

I didn't want to layer this over an orange as I really wanted to get the full orangey flavour, so I layered this over KIKO 329, a lovely pale grey.  What I really liked was how intense the jelly base of Pumpkin Fairy was, and how it beautifully stained the KIKO with just one coat.

The photos haven't quite captured how utterly dazzling this was in real life, definitely the BEST orange glitter I have come across so far, and another Halloweenie that's classy enough to last all year round.

Enjoy xx :)

Depression Awareness - Numb

Hi Goddesses

Today I have another green gradient for you, but one which tells a totally different story.

For me, depression is a lot about feeling numb, remote and untouchable.   Sylvia Plath famously likened it to a Bell Jar - where you are trapped in a cocoon of glass; you can see the world and what's going on, you just can't REACH it.

This is one of the things I find most frightening about depression.  I am by nature a noisy, messy person.   I am passionate, excitable and have a tendency to push things too far.  To have that all snapped off in a heartbeat, to be incapable of ANY emotion is a very scary place for me.

I liken those moments to my "thousand yard stare".  It's as if something recalibrates within me, and to protect me, only allows me to view and feel at a distance.  I feel like a bomb could literally explode in front of me and I wouldn't flinch; it's THAT unfeeling.

It's a zone where life is drained of colour and where you tend to block out sound and vision, existing in a trance where nothing quite touches you.   It's a place where you can make the sound of a laugh without feeling it, where you can hold a conversation without participating in it, and where you can conduct a life without truly living it.

In some ways, I think it might be the opposite of the oblivion drunks and drug addicts seek.  It's certainly numb.   It certainly resembles watching yourself from the ceiling.  And very often, it involves you lying there, still, in a world only a duvet and a pillow can truly understand.

So, onto the mani.  This was another 3 colour gradient, and it's so subtle, you almost can't quite see it! This has OPI Stranger Tides as base, Zoya Farah in the middle, and KIKO  329 at the tips (a beautifully soft grey).

I deliberately wanted colours that had been bled away, leached into almost non-existence.    This state often reminds me of Stephen King's short story The Langoliers, where the characters are living in the world AFTER it's happened, rather than actively partaking in it.

I have 2 more posts coming up for you next, less about the doom and gloom, and this time with a bit more colour!  I hope this series is finding an audience, and that if depression affects YOU, it's helping you realise one thing - you are not alone xxx
