Best of 2012 - Red Polishes

I hope you're enjoying these Best of posts.  I've had a lot of fun making them, and I love reading these types of post myself.

This is the red post.  I feel it's hard to be a sensational red polish.  I feel the options are more limited, partly because the colour span is narrower than say, a blue.  That said, there have been some stunners released this year, but it's left me wondering where else there is left to go for Reds - even this year, I've bought a lot of dupes (especially of red glitters), so I think the polish makers have a real challenge for those of us looking to expand our reds and be wowed.

NerdLacquer - Warrior Ethos

This is MY personal NerdLacquer fave.  Stunning, but as you can see, my bottle has settled a lot.  I'm guessing this was made during the Great Suspension Base Crisis lol.  Truly diffferent, and the black glitter just MAKES it.

Dollish Polish - Nice Scrunchy, Heather

Argh, I love this one SO hard.  Beautiful.  I've described this before as very retro.  It's got that 1950s/60's kitchen accessories colour going on lol, AND just the shimmeriest gentlest tinge of holo.  LOVE THIS LOTS.

The Hungry Asian - Strawberry

I think this was probably the red most people lusted after this year.  A fabulous jelly littered with little black glitter / strawberry seeds, this was truly different.  Simple yet effective.

Black Cat Lacquer - Bloody Kisses

Oooooh, flying in from the dark side, this is AMAZING.   Dark, succulent, delicious.  This is everything a vamp needs in the winter.  LOVE.

Sonoma Nail Art - Deadly Zins

A fabulously intense red glitter, this is rich enough to layer over pretty much any colour without losing its own sense of fun.   Best "just red" glitter.

Crows Toes - Morticia

This is one of those polishes that just stopped me in my tracks this year.  Red, silver and black have been TO DEATH in 2012, but never better than this.

And so to the non-glitters.   This really proves for me how difficult it is to do something "new" - only 3 polishes make my list.

Barry M Gelly - Blood Orange

This is just the perfect bright red - I said when this was released that every collection should own this polish, and I still think that.  Perfect red glossiness.

JADE - Vermelho Surreal

Just when you think you've seen it all, a polish stops your world.  The red holo to rule them all, this caused more drool than most this year.  Amazeballs.

OPI - Danke Shiny Red / Zoya - Elisa

These polishes were virtually identical, and in the end I decided to keep the OPI as I prefer the brush.  This is electric red.  Intense, glowy and shimmer-laced.  Win.

NerdLacquer - Warrior Ethos

Yipppeeeeeee, my first NerdLacquer :)  I heart it lots.  From the moment I became aware of NerdLacquer, this was the one I wanted -

What the -

I am the Editor of the Crumpet Times and I need to use your blog to post the following article.

Ahem, here ye, here ye, there has today been a disturbance of the force in CrumpetLand.  Shockwaves have even reached us in the Royal Palace.

Why, you ask, WHY ???  We will tell you why, because Crumpet - me? yes you - has decided Deborah Lippmann Ruby Red Slippers, of the sacred red polish, is no longer her favourite red, and is hereby required to post her response tout suite.

Ok.  Ok.   Tis true, tis true.  I am in love.   And whilst I will always love the sacred Ruby Red Slippers, there is about to be a cull of red glittery polishes in ye olde nail room, cos frankly, this one is the ONLY one you need.

Siiiiiiigh, where shall I begin?   Ok, let's talk mechanics, and then magic.   Warrior Ethos is an amazing crimson jelly, thick and gooey with good glitter.   She has gold pieces (which change colour when layered with jelly), small holo pieces with give an unexpected violet flash, normal micro glitter, and my favourite, small black glitter.  Quite simply, the combination is stunning.

I'm feeling a bit deceived by some Etsyers at the moment, who seem to add the same glitter to everything, and just change the base colour, but this is really something.  This is a work of art.  This is no random mish-mash of glitter.  Just like Adina's polishes, you can feel the hand of the inspired mistress, crafting away at her offering to the Gods.

I beyond love this polish.   I love it for its beauty, its depth, its rubyness - aaaah it's soooo gorgeous.  I also love it because I know have about 7 other red glitters I no longer need, as this little baby will keep me more than happy on her own.

And she'll have Ruby Red Slippers to keep her company, a bit like her vampy twin.   They share that same staggering, eye-popping beauty that is so rare, and honestly, the glory of a Lippmann glitter is the only other thing I've ever seen that can compare to this NerdLacquer.

Luckily, I've got about 8 others to try (cos I'm THAT naughty).   So enjoy, while I go and defend myself at the Palace.   Eeeeeeek.
