The Digit-al Dozen does ... FESTIVENESS - Abstract Christmas Wreath

Hi Goddesses



Wow, I'm a little bit overwhelmed with yesterday's manis - there was so much awesome out there from everyone in the group. Make sure you take the time to click on the links at the bottom of the post - there is some RIDICULOUS talent in this group!



Today's mani started life as a tutorial for a Splodgerama, albeit in Christmas colours.  Accidentally, I stamped over it, and I much preferred that version, so that's what you're getting today, and we'll do the tutorial at some point in the next couple of weeks.



I'm not going to go into too much detail as that would ruin the tutorial, but a Splodgerama basically involves randomly sponging colours on your nail.  As to which colours I used -


base - OPI Don't Pretzel My Buttons, which is a mannequin shade on me
greens - Bettina Green, Revlon Toad and CG Glittering Garland
reds - CG Ruby Pumps and CG Mommy Kissing Santa (I themed the polishes !!!  lol)



Here's a shot of how the Splodgerama looked once it was done.



I then stamped using my Barry M gold foil, and various stamping plates.  The fabulous Christmas word puzzle you see on the thumb and middle finger is from MJ 7 which you can buy from My Online Shop.




The other words come from Dashica plate Dash11 which has  all sorts of useful slogans on it.




So, quite accidentally, I ended up with something really kinda wonderful.  More than any of the other manis I've done, this one really speaks Christmas to me.

Summer Challenge - Fruit Salad

I feel like it's forever since I posted some kick ass nail art, and I am really really happy with how today's mani turned out.



As with a lot of my stuff, this was a happy accident.  I knew all along that I would probably use this particular stamping plate, but not how or with what colours.




This started with 2 coats of Essie Bazooka, one of their AMAZING summer neons, with Poshe to gloss it up.




I then sponged randomly with Bettina Green and Barry M Yellow, to add lemons and limes to my orange salad :)




And then I stamped over it with Konad White and BM-308.




I really love that the overall effect of this mani is so much more than the sum of its parts.   The sponging shows through beautifully, and so subtly - and I love that it makes the fruit look like it's in various stages of ripeness :)




This is one of my favourite manis in a LONG time .... Crumpet needs to get her mojo back.  I think I've been so busy organising challenges and things I've forgotten how to have fun :(  So I'm off to play with my new polishes and get inspired xx

Summer Challenge Day 37 - Golf The Open

Sorry this is late but I was poopaloopahed last night, and ended up gong to bed at 8.30!   And while we're at it, do you all have a sadistic streak?  Buttercups is the most viewed post of the week !!!  How did that happen lol.




So, yes, Golf and this weekend sees the British Open, one of the golfing Grand Slams, and therefore quite a big deal.   Like a lot of people doing the challenge, I saw this mani a few weeks ago and saved it, knowing it would come in useful.



I went with 3 themes on my nails - golf, a hideous golfing jumper, and then the ball in the sky.




Most of the grass was done with Bettina green, and then I put a lighter tone in using Barry M Lime Green.  So we have a green on the thumb, a fairway on the index finger, and a bit of fairway, the green and a bunker on the middle finger.





Now, this mani is a perfect example of why I will never be brilliant at nail art.  There are a number of reasons - I can't draw, I have no understanding of shading, and (as you can see here) I have no understanding of depth and therefore no spatial awareness.   Behold the golf ball.  It is the same size in all the nails.  Now, given the size of the bunker in the middle nail, this must make the golf ball the size of a boulder, no ?   Yep, crap at art.




The jumper is Barry M Lemon Ice Cream, topped with a stamp, and the sky was Barry M Turquoise.



Faults aside, I actually liked this mani.  It was bright, it was colourful, and the people at work, they really did say "ooooh".

3 for 1 - Bettina Flip Flops, Vintage and Green

Hi Goddesses  






A few weeks ago, I was lucky enough to receive an insane nail mail box containing not 1, or 5 or 10 BUT 16 Bettina polishes.  Oh yes.  16!   For this, I need to thank my Florida crack dealer - Momma Stern.




They are all so beautiful that I didn't know which one to pick first (cos choosing would be like telling the other babies they were ugly) and so I closed my eyes and pointed and ...... landed on this, Flip Flops.





Firstly, my camera is shit.  I have done the best I can, but this is still not entirely colour accurate.  However, being The Crumpet, I am sure I can conjure up a few thousand words to describe it ;)




Flip Flops is GORGEOUS.  Absolutely gorgeous.  It looks good enough to eat, dries like silk, is so shiny I just COULDN'T stop stroking my nails (yes, I do that) and just puts a great big chufty smile on my face.  This is a pastel purple.  Not a lilac, a pastel purple.   So imagine a nice dark purple, slightly blue toned, and then drop a great big dollop of ice cream in it.  Et voila - Flip Flops.




This is very blue toned, which is why my camera hates it, yet it's not as blue toned as the photos.  There's a lot of vibrancy in here, and it reminds me of a few things - 

* this is the exotic Caribbean cousin of OPI Planks A lot - very similar, just more intense.  Deeper.  More.
* it's also quite a close match for Leighton Denny, The Heiress, just a tad darker.
* it's a bit of a dark thistle purple





Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous.





Vintage is a glorious sky blue, from their Jeans Collection (although it doesn't  much look like a jeans colour to me!)   This reminds me of quite a few other blues I own, as you'll have seen in this week's comparison mani (here).




This is fabulously cheerful and bright, and almost a turquoise.  I can't wait to stamp it with silver, and it's just about perfect for summer.








There's a real brazenness to it that is sooo appealing, helped by the fact that it dries at least 1 shade darker than the bottle.




Green is .... er Green.  Been taking lessons from Barry and his M, have we, Bettina ?  And I love it !!  It makes no sense that I should, because this is not just green, it's GREEN!!!





This is so obnoxious, it hurts :)   It reminds me of Zoya Shawn, but I can't compare them as I don't own it on principle (name of the ex lol), and it's as deep and intense as a fairy glade after a thunderstorm.




According to Wikipedia, this is "Islamic green" - it's certainly bright, cheesy, and happy as hell :)  It's also a crelly, which adds to it's luscious squishiness.







Ah Bettina, so far, my experience is that you can't go wrong with a Bettina - here's to my remaining 13 opportunities to prove my theory right :)
