Dark Red Holo-oh Comparison - OPI DS Extravagance, piCture pOlish Monroe and Zoya Blaze

And welcome to the weekend!  For a lot of us, we get 3 days this weekend, so whatever you're doing, ENJOY!   

Today I have a comparison post for you featuring 3 dark red holo polishes.  This post doesn't include ALL my red holos, it's focussed purely on the ruby-toned ones.  For comparison purposes, there's an accent nail of Ozotic 621, which was always my most intense red, and it's just there to highlight how light it is in comparison, and how burgundy the others really are.

OPI DS Extravagance - index finger

piCture pOlish Monroe - middle finger

Zoya Blaze - ring fnger and thumb

Ozotic 621 - little finger

At first glance, I was shocked by the similarities.  I haven't worn the OPI in over a year, and I think I mis-remembered its precise shade - I certainly didn't think it was anywhere NEAR as close in colour to the others as it obviously is.

Extravagance does, however, maintain a cold, violet tone which the others lack, giving it that little bit of distinction.

Monroe and Blaze on the other hand are a bit like twins - sometimes they look identical, and sometimes they don't :)

Blaze for me has a touch more warmth and ruby sparkle, but in some lights, they look nearly identical.

So, do you need all 3??  Wellllllll .... probably not haha.   If you're thinking of buying one, I would probably suggest you only pick one out of these 3. If on the other hand you are already mummy to all 3 of them ..... gah!  so hard, so hard!

piCture pOlish Monroe - Old v New

I've been trying to clear out my vault this morning, and as I did so, I found these !!  Photos of the original version of piCture pOlish Monroe!  And I know how you all love a good comparison post ....

A word first - I thought I had deleted these, and with good reason.  These photos are not great, and that was the huge disappointment of wearing the original polish - it looked pretty and twinkly on my nails, but I just couldn't get a good shot, due to lack of English sun, old camera, bad lighting blah blah blah.

I've included a couple of strange photos, because they show a lot of the old bottle.  This, more than anything, illustrates how different these polishes are.

Monroe version 1 had super fine fairy dust in a crelly base, whilst Monroe version 2 has fully integrated sugar holo coarse particles.

For me, there's no contest, the 2nd version is superior in every way, and I also like that it's now aligned with the same properties as the other holos in the piCture pOlish line.   I still don't like that they "recreated" the polish within 6 months of its birth, but I do prefer the later version.

If you like the original version, it's going to be tricky.  It's no longer produced, so you're only going to find it through blog sales and swap groups, but it will be out there.

piCture pOlish Showdown - Monroe v O'Hara

Are you well?  I don't know about you, but my week has just zoomed by!

For the last 2 weeks I have been teasing you about a O'Hara / Monroe Showdown slash Face-Off, and here it is!  It's actually in 2 halves - the glorious gradient you see above, and a straight skittle type mani.

Because I have a healthy random streak, I loved wearing these polishes together, and the skittle in particular made me super happy.

Wearing the polishes together only serves to highlight the best of each - O'Hara becomes more vibrant and electric, whilst Monroe oozes vampyness.

The gradient .... aaaah I just LOVE this gradient.  It looked spectacular in real life, and I'm not sure the photos capture just how special it was.

These polishes blended perfectly together, the pink holo within O'Hara highlighting the hidden bloody berry tones in Monroe.

There is something just so special about holos.  I call these types "sugary holos", because they remind me of the sugar on fruit pastilles.  Told you: random :)

I'm not sure which piCture pOlish I'll be showing you on Monday .... but don't be surprised if it's purple :)

piCture pOlish Monday - Monroe

It's strange how the wheels of the universe sometimes align.    No sooner had I received this, than Zoya Blaze arrived in the post, and no sooner had I put this on than I kept having flashbacks of OPI Extravagance.   Suffice to say, I think another red holo comparison post is looming :)

So last week I showed you O'Hara, an utterly deliciously bright candy red scattered holo, and today we have another red holo, but one at the other end of the spectrum.

Monroe lives in ruby-burgundy land and is stunning, as you'd expect.    She's quite sultry, and vampy, and has a far darker heart than O'Hara.

In fact, this is Monroe Mark II.  The original was released last year - a crimson crelly, scattered with holographic dust particles, and whilst it was gorgeous, it wasn't quite what it said on the tin.

Monroe Mark II now aligns the piCture pOlish holos, and means O'Hara, Monroe and Cosmos stand shoulder pad to shoulder pad with Kryponite and Attitude.    Personally, I think that makes brand-sense, but it is a bit galling to have to buy the same polish twice.

As ever, no application issues whatsoever, the only thing that's left is to have some fun, and later in the week you'll see what happened when O'Hara and Monroe faced off :)
