Red Spotted Zebras

Hi Goddesses

And welcome to another Monday!  Ugh.  Actually, I am not too bad for a Monday.  I think I slept all the way through last night, without needing a wee, or to cough or snoring loud enough to wake myself up (happens a lot, sigh) .. so I feel strangely awake today lol.

This is a simple little mani that was really easy to throw together.  It features OPI DS Glamour on base, and then some zebra-tiger type thing stamped on top.

I then added red dots using a FABULOUS shade called Orange You Glad by Morgan Taylor.  Insanely bright and cheery and perfect, and the formula is a dream too.

I am to be obsessed with DOTTING ALL THE THINGS at the moment.  I don't know why.  I blame Pinterest, probably.  Oooh and this fabby mani from Nail Polish Wars.

The Final GOT Polish Challenge - DS Glamour and Comparison

Hi Goddesses

Today sees the end of the GOT Polish Challenge as it currently is.   From next week, it gets replaced with the 52 week Pick n Mix Challenge, although you can still apply the GOT rules if you want to.

I wanted to commemorate the moment lol, but this is not the final prompt - this is the prompt from a couple of weeks ago: a polish you've ignored for too long.

I got DS Glamour in a swap after wanting it for ages.  Did I want it because it's awesome, or because it's so HTF?  Ah, now that's the question, and I think the fact I rarely use it hints at the latter.  Also, I feel I shouldn't waste it lol, so again, rarely used.

It's a lovely denim holo, and I do love these old OPI DS polishes for that.  It has a dreamy formula, and it's just lovely.  Notice that for me it's not "sexy" or "amazing".

Last year Ninja Polish released a dupe called Glamorous and I thought I should finally compare them.   Ninja is on the middle and ring fingers.

They are very similar, but Ninja has the volume turned up a fraction.  It's like the older OPI looks ... old .. on the nail, and the new kid on the block has a little bit more dazzle.  It's more vibrant, slightly more intense, the colour is deeper.

It's not too late to get involved in the 52 Week Challenge - all you need to do is head over to Crumpet' Nail Tarts and join in.

Digit-al Dozen Does BLUE - Blue Holo Comparison

Hi Goddesses

I hope you're enjoying this first Digit-al Dozen Week.  There have been some stunning manis already, so make sure you check out everybody's links at the end of the post :)

I wanted to do another holo comparison post because ... well, who doesn't love holos lol, and you seem to enjoy these posts too.

So, today's contestants are -

thumb - HITS Apolo
index - OPI DS Glamour
middle - Ozotic 617
ring - Oxotic 515
pinkie - Jade Hypnose

If we start by stating the obvious, we are looking at 2 types of blues here - darker, denimy blues (Apolo and Glamour) and then sky blues (the other 3).

Let's take the darker ones first.   I bought Apolo because I thought I would never get my hands on DS Glamour :)   To be honest, Glamour (index) is everything you need in a blue holo - denimy, dreamy and dazzling.

Apolo (thumb) is a tad greener and aquatic in tone, and as the HITS polishes are such good quality, I keep it for nail art (not wanting to waste a drop of my precious Glamour lol).

You may remember that we had 2 Ozotics when we did the red holo comparison HERE, and that on that occasion, one of them was a coarse grained holo, and the other was smoother and lusher.

We have exactly the same situation here.  617 (middle) and 515 (ring) are both the same colour, and they're both holographic - the only thing that differentiates them is the size of the holo particle, 515 on the ring finger being the smooth baby.

And then the surprise - Ozotic 515 and Jade Hypnose (little finger) are DUPES !!   Just look at them - dead on in colour, tone and holo-ness.

In real life there was maybe 1 degree of difference between these 2 colours, nothing more, so if you own 1, you definitely don't need the other, but if you don't own either, you're going to have to go for the Jade (which is cheaper, anyway) because both Ozotics are now discontinued.

Enjoy xx :)

Digital Dozen Does: BLUE - Ruffles

Hi Goddesses

Yes I am obsessed, and nooooo, I am not going to apologise :)  This is my 3rd ruffle mani in as many weeks.  I love them!

As you know, I am a self-declared Splodger, so I tend to like nail art that's not too exact.  Now, whilst a ruffle is more exact than say .... a splatter ... there's still something sufficiently random about this to appeal to my inner child.

For those of you who like the science, let me lay down a few guidelines for you -
* always use a base colour first, ideally using the palest colour in your ruffle.  When I did the rainbow ruffle, I used a nude, as I didn't think any of the other colours were safe enough (they'd have distorted what I dotted on top)
* think about the order of your colours - are you going from light to dark, or random
* think about which size dotting tool to use.  You want to go fairly large, to get the appearance of dots.  I have large nails and I used the next to largest size

* try to make your dots look separate - it creates a better effect.  Where mine are too close together, it just looks like I did a lumpy line
* pick your first colour, and do all your nails in that colour first.  Then stop.
* be patient - you're going to have to wait til that first colour is dry before you can do your next row.  Again, do all 5 nails.  Then stop

So, which colours did I use this time ?
OPI Ogre The Top Blue
Sally Hansen Himalayan Blue
OPI DS Glamour
China Glaze Secret Peri-Wink-le
China Glaze Kinetic Candy - also used as the base colour
Oh My Gosh Cobalt Blue

A random layer of holo or glitter really spices things up - I love the impact here of the Glamour layer.

And there you have it - Ruffles !  See you tomorrow, and don't forget to check out the rest of the lovely ladies.

Enjoy xx :)

Summer Challenge Day 33 - Sea Shells

Hi Goddesses

So how was Friday 13th for you???   Tolerable I hope:)   Seashells ... she sells seashells on the seashore ... Crumpet paints seashells on her huge paws ...

Seashells for me, conjure up perfect smells and images.  The salty breeze of the ocean, the cool clear of the water in which they lie, the soft scrunch of sand between the toes, and always, ALWAYS the coconutty smell of sunscreen :)   Who hasn't ever collected shells ?  We've all done it - it's almost a childhood rite of passage.

I was a little bit short of ideas for this until I wore OPI DS Glamour (which you can see here).   Immediately, there was something perfect about it's oceanic depths that drew me closer to the seashells challenge.   The next trick was to find a suitable pattern, and not only that, but one that let enough of Glamour dazzle through.

In the end I settled on this pattern from Mash-40, which reminded me of this type of swirly shell -

There's also something about the blue and white which complements perfectly.  Ironically, I got an awesome stamping package this week containing a plate with proper seashells on .... sigh ..... but more on that at the weekend.

I really loved this combo - I'm not sure how much it really does resemble a seashell, but there's definitely something watery about it.  It's bold and it's bright, and that's alright by me :)

Enjoy xx :) and don't forget to check out the other fairies xx
