Poor Neeka.  Poor gorgeous, forlorn, lovelorn Neeka.  She’s quite tragic, this little goddess, and our relationship started with a tragedy of EPIC proportions.  I bought the Smoke & Mirrors sets back in August, and Neeka was the one that I wanted the most.  And what do you know, when they all arrived, which was the only one who got decapitated in shipping??  Yup, poor Neeka.

Luckily, I had bought them from one of my favourite ebay sellers, and when I told Cindy that Neeka had not only lost her head but spilt her lovely Neeka blood ev-ery-where, Cindy (after she stopped laughing) sent me another.

By the time she finally arrived in her one piece, I had swatched most of the Smoke and Mirrors Collections and found them a little lacking (too much smoke, not enough colour) and so poor Neeka has been sitting in the untried box ever since.

Until today.  Hurrah!  Today is Neeka’s first day out of Untrieds Jail, and she is LOVING it.  So much so, that she’s revealed she has many sides to her character – she is poor, forlorn washed out purple Neeka; she is in-the-shade dark and mysterious Neeka (WAY darker than I ever imagined she could be); she is peekaboo Puck, dancing bright in the light; and she is captivatingly shy, never revealing too much of herself, and ALWAYS making you want to come back for more.

Neeka’s soul is in the dusty purple hall.  She’s a beautiful shy grey purple with flecks of gold.  Indoors she looks very dark and dappled, very smokily indigo, but get her in the light and the flecks in her sing and soar like angels’ heartbeats.

She’s very grurple, very washed out, very worn looking, but that’s what gives her her charm.  She may occasionally lose her head lol, but you’ll always love having her on your nails.

I have a delicious Zoya purple for you today.  As she’s all over the news, I thought I would finally crack open my bottle of Zoya Demi J

Firstly, nobody does purples like Zoya.  For me, they have the best range and most variety – and ALL of them are amazing.  Secondly, for the Camera That Can’t Do Purple, my camera hasn’t done too badly on this one!

ZOYA Demi is a beautiful rich colour that sits somewhere between magenta and purple.    It’s totally beautiful and somewhat indefinable – and I really love that about it.

There’s a lot of warmth to this colour – it’s like a deep dark violet on a sunny beach, or a sunburnt magenta.  I have a lot of love for this colour.

The Wikipedia colour chart calls this colour Fandango (is that even a colour lol) – it’s bright, it’s berryish, it has depth and intensity … this is the colour Morticia Addams would wear on a happy day lol.

I honestly don’t think you see too many purples of this shade.  Like all Zoyas, it goes on darker than the bottle.

BLUE SPECTRUM

For some reason, I am obsessed with what I call “Lollipop Nails”.  Basically, 3 stripes of colour, swirled with a toothpick. I think it's because, like me, it's very simple :)  I have no idea if it has a more proper name, but I like the name lollipop!

As part of Blue Week I wanted to do a Lollipop and I decided to do one not in 3 shades of blue, but using the colours next to blue in the spectrum – green and purple.

The blue is CHINA GLAZE First Mate (a tealy-navy-royal blue blend), CHINA GLAZE Starboard (a real emerald green) and ZOYA Mira (impossible to describe – purple ice cream?).

My camera hates photographing purple, and of all the purples in the world it REALLY hates Mira lol, so these photos are less than perfect, and they do lose some of the effect.

In person, the effect is weird, but I LIKE IT.  From a distance, the nails look a petrol purple, and as you get closer, the individual colours start to stand out.  These 3 colours all have the same intensity and work really well together.

They remind me a little of Wimbledon colours!  It’s a very rich, dark, Victorian, peacocky kind of combination.

I hoped to be able to show you that some of the nails have different patterns, but the camera just wasn’t having it (how rude is that!) but you do have another rare appearance of the Full Paw Shot – enjoy!

Blue Week - Sponged Gradient

BLUE SPONGE GRADIENT

Hi Goddesses – happy weekend!

I have wanted to do a gradient for a while and a sponge mani for a while and I combined them on this for Blue Week. 

Now, I am not a “neat” person, so I have to find ways of making things look a little less perfect but as if that was my intention all along!  I knew I didn’t want precision, but I’m not sure if I made the right decision with the tips – sometimes I think they look cool, like waves, othertimes I think they just look like a 5yr old did them!

So, I used – CHINA GLAZE Luna as my base.  Luna is an amazing silvery pale blue with holographic sparkles in it.  I am going to be using this a lot I think as we veer into winter, as it’s the perfect colour for iciness.  I hoped that in using it, some of the glitter would peek through the other layers, and it does – JUST.  It also makes the whole thing look a little rough – I’m going to pretend that was my intention as the sea is a little choppy and frothy J

It’s then got 2 layers of ZOYA Jo and 1 layer of ZOYA Indigo. 

I used the sponge eyeshadow brushes – they gave me quite a high degree of flexibility and were great if I needed to touch little bits up.

Now, this post is quite unique, as it features the Rarely Seen Full Paw Shot lol.   I don’t usually show my whole hand, but I did like how this mani looked at a distance.

Overall I was quite pleased with – definitely room for improvement though ha ha

RED LEOPARD Grrrrrr

I know it’s Blue Week, but I meant to post this at the weekend and just never got round to it …..

This is really simple.  I am obsessed with leopard print nails but not very good at freehand, and am determined to keep trying til I perfect it!

This is a base colour of SALLY HANSEN Right Said Red and then freehand leopard spots with ZOYA Dakota.  I don’t know why I wanted to do red on red lol but they were bright, happy and cheerful.

As you can probably tell from the photos, both polishes are insanely glossy and shiny – this was one where I couldn’t stop staring.  Not all of the nails look great, but it brought me happiness J

Zoya - Dree

ZOYA – Dree

Hi Goddesses.

A quickie from me.  This is Zoya Dree which I have just used as the base for a patterned mani.  As she’s so pretty on her own, I thought it only fair she had her own moment of glory – so here she is !  (oh and that’s why there’s still colouring outside the lines.  I didn’t clean up because I had more polish to put on).

Like all Zoyas, Dree goes on a dream (or should that be Dree-m lol).  This is just 1 coat and it’s pretty much fully opaque.

The colour is a perfect olivey dirty swampy green, and although I do not like greens, Dree is a very pretty girl indeed.

Like so many other greens that have come out in the last few months, this is very army coloured – I kept her to do a camouflage mani, but so far I’m failing BIGtime with that!

So, Dree.  Pretty much the perfect shiny deep olivey green.  Enjoy J
