Snowflakes - Take 1

PURPLE CRUMPET FAIRY CHALLENGE – The 31 Days of Christmas

Day 8 - Snowflakes

Hi Goddesses

I’ve loved seeing everyone’s snowflakes and they look soooooo easy to do, but a wobbly hand and a heavy touch can make any easy nail art look dodgy!

I actually wasn’t happy with this mani at all, (I’ll explain why later) so today you’ll be getting 2 snowflake manis !

One of the things I love about the snow is how it turns the sky lilac, so unlike everyone else, I decided to do mine on a lilac background, and I chose one of my favourites, Sally Hansen Delphinium.

I’m sure you do know this, but did you know that every snowflake is unique?  Each one is individual and different, just like a finger print, so I decided to do a different pattern on each nail.

The thumb didn’t really work.  I tried to do some little extra bits prisming off it, and it just looks *wrong* lol.  The index finger I love.  It doesn’t really look like snowflakes, but I really likey this, and think this will look lovely as a spring mani.

Middle finger?  Just looks blobby.  Ring finger I love – I tried to do long elegant strokes – and little finger, so-so.

And at this point, it looked ok.  Not great, but ok.  Now, 2 months ago, I would not have been able to tell you this, because I would not have taken these half-time photos, but now I do clever things like that, so behold if you will, before and after Nubar White Polka Dot.

NWPD is one of my fave new polishes, and it looks like a snowstorm in a bottle.  On the Barry M Grey post, it looked wicked, like white snowflakes, so what an obvious choice for this mani, right ?

You’d think, wouldn’t you.  You really really would.  But no, and it is White Polka Dot which, regrettably, turned this mani to shit.

Exhibit A – it does not look like it’s snowing!

Exhibit B – and I have only realised this heinous crime upon cropping the photos – it turned the Delphinium pinkish!

Outrage!  Order in court!  Take him into custody!!  And this is the heart of why I did not like this mani.  It bugged me that the Delphinium looked too pink and girly and downright wrong, and it’s not til I’ve cropped the photos that I have been able to lay the blame for that at WPD’s door.  You stand accused …. etc.

It was a good idea, but it did not work. The lilac needed to stay grey for this mani to work, and WPD, you just came in and ballsed it up.

See you for Take 2 later xx J

Enjoy xx J

Top Tip – if you’re ever unsure what a nail colour looks like, go to Google images, which will give you plenty of contrasts and compares.
