Nails I Love - OPI Merry Midnight

Nails I Love

OPI – Merry Midnight

Helloooooo Goddesses.

Today we have Holy Lemming No 1 – Merry Midnight.  There’s a reason it’s so beloved – it’s a fricking work of ART.

with flash to show the amazing base colour

There are several reasons MM floats my boat –
  • Base colour – purple – nuff said
  • It had flakie holo pieces
  • It looks like Christmas
  • It’s sheer happiness for the nail
  • It’s an explosion of lusciousness

MM has a purple base, but way over on the maroon side.  It looks like the blackcurrants and the cranberries decided to have a fight in the bottle, and are still going at it.  I’ve included a couple of flash pictures, because the undertone is truly special.

So, not only is the base colour gorgeous, it has frosting and shimmer to it that flash blue in the light.  THIS is why it reminds me of Christmas J

Then of course you’ve got the holo flakes.  Most of the time they glint pink, but they happily turn to orange if you so much as wink at them.  Better still, get them alone and start flirting and they turn GREEN as they shy away from the light.

There’s a whole lot of colour going on here, and if you think about it, it really shouldn’t work – purple, pink, orange, green and blue ?  All at the same time ?  And it keeps changing ?  It seems insane they can co-exist so perfectly and not inspire nausea, but they do.

The secret is in the magical cloak of mystery MM likes to present to the world.  She likes to pretend she’s a respectable purple-maroon-magenta kind of girl, a cloak of many twilight colours, but really she’s a kaleidoscope ready to freak out!

So, is it worth the hype?  Actually, I’m not that sure.  As the day has worn on I have loved her more and more, and in return she has shown me more of herself (she certainly wasn’t flashing her blue shimmer at me this morning, and it took me til lunch to find the lime green).  At first I thought I could do as well with a good purple and some KleanColor black holo, but d’you know what, I can’t.

There’s no way to replicate the enormous blend of colours going on here, and that’s what makes MM so amazingly special.  How else do you combine colour, shimmer, glimmer, frost, holo, flakie goodness in a combination of hot and cold colours ?

This also reminds me of a Christmas pudding – please, bear with – it’s got the warmth of the berries, the fruit and the brandy and then the clash of the blue flame once it’s lit.

This is super special, and in what has until now been quite a bland year, a timeless reminder of what OPI can do when they really make an effort.

Enjoy J

Top Tip – if you’re ever unsure what a nail colour looks like, go to Google images, which will give you plenty of contrasts and compares.
