What's Your Birthstone Mani

The Purple Crumpet Fairy Challenge – Week 1

Week 4 – Your Birthstone

Hi Goddesses

Here is the 4th Challenge from the Purple Crumpet Fairy, the nail polish group I set up with Claire Gallagher.  We’re now at 5 members, and anyone who wants to can join us in our weekly challenges by clicking here and requesting to join the group.

This week is a perfect example of why I created these challenges.  I am quite lazy when it comes to my nails.  “Pick a pretty colour and plop it on” is pretty much what I’m all about.  Which is ridiculous, because a) polish can do so much more AND b) the blogs I LOVE are the girls who do arty things.

So I created the weekly challenges to force myself to do different stuff, develop my skills and get me out of my rut, which is what this week’s challenge (chosen by Kerrie) has done.  I have put this off all week, despite knowing from the day it was chosen what I would do lol!!

So, why have I been putting it off ?

* I think I’ve been pouting that my birth stone is PERIDOT.  For those of you who don’t know, it’s an insipid green, and whilst I love green, I do not like green nails, and I have never liked my birthstone
* Claire got to do ruby and Bee got to amethyst = triple pout.  But d’you know what?  If I’d gotten either of them I’d have just done a plain swatch
* I couldn’t decide on my base colour (I eventually chose Zoya Marley)
* I don’t own the right colour green
* I would have to do nail art.  Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE nail art, it’s just that my intentions far exceed my abilities, and I knew I wouldn’t be able to wuss out of this one lol

Birthstone to me meant jewellery, so I chose to do various pieces of peridot jewellery, using my lovely new nail art pens.  And it was whilst rummaging through my pens that I found the perfect colour to use.

To help you decipher my ahem “art”, we have –

Thumb – square peridot set in a platinum band
Index – 1 gold dangly peridot drop earring
Middle – peridot and gold bracelet
Ring – gold necklace with peridot drop pendant
Pinkie – peridot and platinum eternity band

Isn’t it funny that the things you put off are never as bad as you think they will be ?

Enjoy ;) xx

Top Tip – if you’re ever unsure what a nail colour looks like, go to Google images, which will give you plenty of contrasts and compares.
