Hi Goddesses
And so we reach the final third of the challenge, and for me, this section is the hardest. It's about things that inspire you, and whilst I OFTEN do manis on things that have inspired me, it's VERY hard to do it on demand.
Take today. There's probably 100s of songs I could do - I just need to be listening to one of them and go "ooooh, that would work". When you've got to come up with an idea quickly, (and especially if you've done a few of these challenges and therefore used up some of your best ideas already) you end up, too often, resorting to compromise, settling for something you CAN do, rather than something that genuinely inspires you.
Fortunately today isn't in that category - but beware, some of the rest of the week is lol!! Today's song is Cloudbusting by Kate Bush, from her Hounds of Love album, *probably* 1 of my Top 3 Albums of All Time.
Cloudbusting (and it's amazing video) is based on a book by Peter Reich. Here's the wikipedia synopsis -
The song is about the very close relationship between psychologist and philosopher Wilhelm Reich and his young son, Peter, told from the point of view of the mature Peter. It describes the boy's memories of his life with Reich on their family farm, called Orgonon where the two spent time "cloudbusting", a rain-making process which involved pointing at the sky a machine designed and built by Reich, called a cloudbuster. The lyric further describes Wilhelm Reich's abrupt arrest and imprisonment, the pain of loss the young Peter felt, and his helplessness at being unable to protect his father. The song was inspired by Peter Reich's 1973 memoir, "A Book of Dreams", which Bush read and found deeply moving
The song itself is an exemplar of rhythmn and how one bar of music can feed and bewitch an entire song.
For my nails, I chose to show what might happen to the sky during a cloudbusting session, as it turns from bright sunshine, to clouds that grow ever more ominous, to huge great pelts of rain. With how my sinuses have been recently, a machine that can make the clouds pop would be MIGHTY useful :/
Finally, here's a shot of what the Cloudbusting machine looked like in the video. The video is more of a mini film than a pop video - definitely worth YouTubing.
Enjoy xx :)
