Hi Goddesses
Today as well as my normal Stamping Sunday post, I thought I'd show you what happens when stamping doesn't go quite right. I have a lot of friends who are awesome at layering stamps and picking the perfect colour combos - well, this is what happens when you're not quite there yet :)
They are however a sign of evolution - they show the stage you go through when you know WHAT you want to achieve, but it hasn't all pulled together yet. Hopefully you'll find some wisdom in my mis-steps.
First up is one that still looks pretty, even though it wasn't successful. This is a base of HITS Hula and HITS Salsa which was just gorgeous to wear - so bright and happy. I decided to make it even more colourful by stamping over it in red ....
And that was my failing. The red just doesn't stand out in enough detail - there's not enough contrast. Now, from a distance, it still looks nice, because it's all about those hot tones, but no, red on pink does not equal success :(
Next we have a holy hot mess lol. The base is a nice gradient - OPI Gouda Gouda Two Shoes and Wooden Shoe Like To Know. So gorgeous that I wanted to stamp over it ...
and failed! It's the colour choice I think. This is KleanColour Metallic Mango from memory, and it just doesn't work. A lot of my fails come from when I am determined not to stamp with black, white, silver or gold. Yeh, that strategy is working sweeeeet :/
Next up is an almost win. This was a base of Picture Polish Denim, then Pam's Girly Bits Hippity Hop, and then I decided to make it mermaidy.
It ALMOST works. I think there's too much glitter to allow the stamping to stand out. I debated colouring in some of the scales with pink and green but decided against it. So close.
And finally, another almost. This is Deborah Lippmann Razzle Dazzle stamped with Barry M gold foil.
2 things failed here - the width of the pattern is HUGE so the gold totally dominates; secondly, the stamping didn't go right to the end of my fingers, so I ended up doing some funky french tips in Razzle Dazzle to hide it - bad idea lol.
So there you have it. Sometimes stamping does go gloriously right, and I have even had those moments. Hopefully this will give hope to those of you going through this same phase.
Enjoy xx :)
