SIMPLES Week 10 - Watercolour Bases

Hi Goddesses

Today we have the beautiful effects you get from watercolour bases.  This is a style for which I have a lot of love.  I don't see it around much though, which makes me wonder whether people think it's a lot more complicated than it is.

As you know, I like messy and I like random, so this is another of those styles that's made for me.  I also love that you can achieve different effects, and I've done a few of these in the video to give you an idea of the variety.

Things You Need

* a white base, top coated and allowed to dry.  You MUST top coat.

* a choice of polishes

* a dotting tool, unless you can make small dots with the nail polish brush itself

* acetone / nail polisher remover and a smallish brush.  Using different brushes will vary the effect you achieve

* a napkin to keep wiping your brush

I've deliberately done various styles here.

On the thumb you have the "classic" - small dots, watered down.

On the middle nail, I've created a colour wash - one colour, lots of acetone, lots of swooshing it around.

The index finger shows the same technique but using 2 polishes.

The ring finger combines the wash of the middle finger with some specific dots from the thumb - I think this one is my favourite.

The little finger is random dots, all washed together at the same time.  This looks a bit messy, but you'll get great results if you've used just one colour scheme eg all blues.

Let's check out the video -

Here are some fabulous watercolour examples -

I also used a glitter here, and loved the sparkle it added.

This was always one of my favourites - source

Interestingly, this week I've seen 2 variations of this technique.  It's worth checking both posts out, because you may find these techniques suit you better.  Personally, I like ALL the methods - it's just about using the one that will best create the look you're after -

* The Nailasaurus
* PiggieLuv

And there you have it.  Waaaaay easier than it might look, I can't wait to see what you all come up with.  If you're not in the Simples Nail Art Group yet, it's not too late to join.
