Welcome to the weekend! I am vertical and it's not even noon, which is kind of unnatural, and I don't feel totally awake. I foresee an afternoon nap in my future!
You may remember that Claire was the winner of the January Nail Art Contest, and today we have her guest post. Ignore her modesty - the lines on this are SO crisp, I wish I could do as well!

I was so excited to find out that I had won January's The Crumpet Amateur Nail Art Contest. It's the first contest I have ever entered. I was equally chuffed when Debbie offered for me to write her a guest post for her blog. While incredibly excited, it also scared me loads. This blog gets loads of visits and I was daunted by the prospect of putting together a manicure that I thought worthy enough!
Well, I ran myself ragged trying to come up with something new and creative enough, and was never satisfied with my ideas. So I gave up on that and just decided that the next manicure that I did that I thought was a bit different would be the one that I wrote up for this blog.
So here it is. I've done a bit of a pastel mix and match manicure with some striped nails created with masking tape.
I normally use plain old Scotch tape for striping or colour blocking, but I recently picked up some blue painters tape, and I think I prefer it very slightly as it gives slightly cleaner lines (albeit I'm still not great at this!)
I've used two really cheapy nail polishes that I got in Poundland recently. They are Collection 2000 polishes from the Hot Looks collection. Dynasty is a medium lilac colour, and Button Moon is a lovely pale blue. They came in packs of three of each colour for just £1 - what a bargain. The drawback, if that kind of thing bothers you, is that they are from a few years ago. It doesn't matter to me; I think they are lovely colours and are perfect pastels for today, which happens to be the first bright and sunny day we've had for a while now (I'm in South London, UK).
I bought these two colours at the same time and when I swatched them next to each other on a wheel, I was struck by how similar they are to the colour scheme of a very old website of mine. Here's a snapshot of part of the header from it:
Seeing the colours together on the swatch wheel, along with the recollection of how I had selected similar colours in the past for my website made me think that they might go well together in a manicure, and decide on some stripes. I reversed the nails on my right hand, and think I prefer that colour scheme slightly.
In terms of formula, the polishes are nothing special, but I'm not complaining for 34p a bottle! They are quite thin and runny, and it took three coats to get them opaque. My husband says my nails remind him of an old children's TV programme that we used to be constantly subjected to by our (now 9-year old son). I'm not sure if it's still on, but it was called The Fimbles. I looked it up online and he's right. The colour scheme is fairly close to the colours of Florrie, who was the female Fimble.
