Friday Friends - Helena from Nail Wish

Hi Goddesses

Today's Friday Friend is Helena from Nail Wish, a stunning nail artist who I met through the Purple Crumpet Fairy Challenge group.  All of her nail art is stunning - I have no idea how she does it!

Sit back, enjoy, and drool with envy :)

What is your name and what is your blog
Hi!
My name is Helena and my blog started with the name of Mistrukisyparanoias but I thought it was really long, complicated and didn’t really match my new interests and the things that I was blogging about, so recently I changed it to NailWish. Even I have been blogging for about three years I didn’t want to take it seriously until this year, so I am starting with facebook (Nail Wish), I have a Bloglovin account which I don’t know exactly how to use it, and I’m planning to be on Pinterest.
I am from Spain, so excuse my crappy English.

What can we expect to see on your blog / How would you describe your style / your blog’s style
This is the most difficult question for me. Of course you should expect lots of nail polish, manicures, nail art and stamping, but I consider myself unpredictable, so you really never know what I’m going to write about the next time.

Why did you decide to start the blog –
At first my blog started as a makeup blog, but I realized I was not as good as I thought, and also didn’t have enough money to buy the materials I needed, so I had almost stopped blogging when I was kidnapped by the nail art world!
I was a really bad nail biter, but I also was jealous of all these girls who had pretty hands with well cared and painted nails... so one day I decided to stop, and that’s what I did. Then I discovered I loved spending a lot of time doing my nails and decided to post them, every time more often until it became an almost exclusively nails blog.

How many followers do you have / how many visitors do you get a day / if you have an established blog, how have you “built” your following
I don’t have a lot of followers, I have 98, but I receive around 500 visits a week. I know it’s not that impressive but I am very proud that someone is interested in what I say and do, and what is more important: I LOVE what I do and I’m proud of it so, that’s all I need.

What do you do in the real world, and how do you fit blogging in with your lifestyle ?
I am Studying to be a Primary teacher, actually I am finishing this month (May-June) so I’m very excited.
Blogging takes a loot of time, that’s why I don’t post very often, but I am changing it! I am pushing myself to write more and spent time working on my blog because I really enjoy it and I think It’s time to take this more seriously.

What is the favourite post you have done -
This is hard too; I think my favourite post would be Lime Zipper. Because I was really excited about making my own water decals and this manicure was my favourite of all of them.

What is your most popular ever post
My most popular ever post is not a manicure post, and it’s not even written in English!
It’s a tutorial on How can you make your own felt pattern. And it shows how to do that with just a google image and a little bit of time.

Which blogger do you most admire / who do you follow / who are your go to bloggers
I really can’t choose one of my favourite bloggers, but I can mention a few of them. I am sure you know them:
- Nailside: I am always amazed with the lots of things she can create just with tape and nail polish.
- The Nailasaurus: She is a true inspiration for people that have short nails, and her manis are always flawless.
- The ChitchatNails: This blogger is a colour artist, I love her colour combinations, and everything she creates is so elegant.
- RobinMoses: This blog (and youtube videos) are true art. She makes the most incredible designs just with acrylic paints and brushes. A nail art goddess!

When blog posts go wrong – pls share a photo and link of a blog post of your own that you are ashamed of / wish you could redo / didn’t turn out how you wanted it to.
My Christmas Eve Mani post didn’t turned out as I was expecting, because I didn’t like the manicure and the picture made it worse. After trying the hole afternoon, I ended with this manicure, that didn’t make me feel that I had done a good job, and when I took the picture I used the exact same colours as the background, so I couldn’t see anything, and then I added the frame, and It felt too much and I didn’t like it but it was really late and I didn’t want to start again... blah blah blah.
It wasn’t the best time for me either, so I think it didn’t help.

Pick a further 3 manis of your choice from your blog
I have chosen three manicures that are special to me because they had something new or exciting for me:

This is the manicure that appears inside my “How to make your own water decals” tutorial. It was my first mani with my own water decals and I loved It!! Also I had very long nails (I have never had them that long again)

I was dying to try this Bundle Monster Plate!! Also I loved the result and the picture.

All my friends loved this manicure, and I liked it because it reminded me of the White tree of Minas Tirith of The Lord of the Rings books.

Finally your stash – talk about your favourite brands, colours, must have tools, your “number” etc
I have more or less 120 nail polishes of all kinds (i say more or less because there are alwas 5 or 10 that are around my house) I don’t have favourite brands but my most bought nail polish brands usually are Yes Love, China Glaze, Deliplus, H&M and Essence.
I don’t use a lot of stuff to do my nails but my must have tools are: Cotton sticks (I use them for everything!), dotting tools (which I don’t have but I desperately need!), a small brush for cleaning cuticles and a sponge for gradients and textures.

Oh and one last thing – what tip would you share with someone who is thinking about starting a blog ?
Don’t be like me!! Be responsible and post often. Hahaha!
And of course enjoy what you do.

Let’s Get Personal
What’s your earliest polish memory: It’s funny but I think my earliest polish memory is about my primary teacher who used to paint her toe nails when we were doing our homework at school. It was disgusting!

Fave film: My favourite film has and is always going to be Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.

Fave type of music: I like all kinds of music from rap to classical music, but if I had to choose I would say 80’s and 90’s music, and, of course Michael Jackson!!

How old are you lol: I am a 7 year old child trapped inside a 23 years body.

Are you a cat or dog person: Actually I think I am a cat person, even I never had a cat and that I have a dog...

Fave book: “The Last Cato” by Matilde Asensi

If you won £5million on the lottery, what would you do: I am sure I would buy a lot of nail polish... so much that I would need another house for sure!! So I would buy a house which would have a special room for me and my nail polishes... hahaha
And I would travel a lot because I love travelling.

What inspires you: When I am without inspiration I do with a I suppose a lot of people do, see what other inspiring blogger have done, but what inspires me every day is the challenge of creating something new.

Share a quote that means a lot to you: If you have seen the film “Meet the Robinsons” you know what I mean when I say: “Keep moving forward”
It means for me that no matter how bad it is now, you should keep moving because better times are always coming.
