Festive Reds - Sally Hansen - Downtown Rubies

SALLY HANSEN – Downtown Rubies

Hi Goddesses

When I first saw this polish I absolutely fell in love with it and thought I had found the perfect glittery red, and then the next day I saw Smitten With Mittens!  Oh well.

Downtown Rubies is a glitter first and a red polish second.  This is the bit you need to understand before you enter into a deal with this polish.  It’s quite sheer – glitter in an almost sheer red suspension.  It’s going to take 3 – possibly 4 – coats before you get the opacity you desire.  And it spreads like snot.

Seriously.  This is a really hard polish to manoeuvre.  It’s like treacle or tar for the nail, and because it’s mostly glitter, it doesn’t spread well.  It really was a pain in the ass to put on.

Once on though, oh she is pretty.  She’s all glitteriness and sparkle and blingaliciousness.  She’s somewhere between a pure red glitter and a glittery red – you’ll get a better idea of where she sits in that spectrum from my sparkly reds post (here – Downtown Rubies is on the pinkie).

I wore her, I loved her, but I’ve moved on – sorry!

Top Tip – if you’re ever unsure what a nail colour looks like, go to Google images, which will give you plenty of contrasts and compares.
