Models Own - Aqua Violet from BEETLEJUICE

MODELS OWN – Aqua Violet from the Beetlejuice Collection

Hi Goddesses

Well, the hype was high about this collection, and 1 of the colours even sold out.  So, was it worth the hoopla ?

I ended up buying 2 polishes (because Pinky Brown has sold out), Aqua Violet and Purple Blue.  I decided to try this one first because it had looked really arresting in some of the photos I’ve seen, and also cos it’s not my normal sort of colour.

And I hate it.  Waaaaaaah.  Not fair.  I had *such* high hopes for this colour, but I really do not like it on.  Which is not the same as saying everybody will hate it, just that it’s doing nothing for me.

But Why, Crumpet, Why ?
  • As usual with Models Own, the 1st coat goes on extremely sheer.  This took 3 coats and I *never* do 3 coats
  • The aqua isn’t aqua so much as nuclear metallic nasty bitter turquoise.  It’s a really brash shade.  No subtlety, no beauty.
  • The aqua is the dominant shade, the one you get in “resting” position.  The violet is what you get when you contort your hand. It would have been soooo much better the other way round
  • The violet is not equal to the aqua.  By that I mean the violet is quite subtle and shy – it has no chance against the crassness of the aqua.  Very imbalanced.

Now, everyone at work LOVED it, and thought it looked ace, so maybe it is just me, but it’s not often I can’t WAIT to get home and get a mani off.  Also, although this is duochrome, it is different to say Hard Candy Beetle – this is either aqua, or violet.  Nothing in between, and no multi shades along the way.

Finally, don’t be fooled by my photos.  Unfortunately I’ve not been able to capture how bright and brassy the polish is on camera, which means that even I quite like what I see in these photos!  Think peacock-turquoise, and you’ll be on the right track, oh and a LOT less of the violet (don’t know how the camera is picking up so much when I can’t see it with my naked eye).  These photos look really subtle and beautiful.  When I look at my hand ?  The opposite - nasty, and hardly any violet.

So, I’m quite a disappointed Crumpet – this might be coming to a blog swap near you soon.  Let’s hope Bella & Edward can cheer me up … here twinny twinnies …

Top Tip – if you’re ever unsure what a nail colour looks like, go to Google images, which will give you plenty of contrasts and compares.
