NAILS I LOVE - Zoya - Blues - Marina, Tao, Jo, Kotori & Cynthia

Nails I Love

Nails I Love is written to celebrate some of the most beautiful nail varnishes on earth and to help you choose which colours and styles will suit you.

Each posting will feature details about the colour as well as photos.  I guarantee every photo will show the varnish as it looks on your fingers, otherwise, what’s the point ?

Top Tip – if you’re ever unsure what a nail colour looks like, go to Google images, which will give you plenty of contrasts and compares.

ZOYA – I Got The Bluuuuuuuuuuues

Basically, this was just an excuse to try 3 of the colours from Smoke & Mirrors, but doesn’t the blue rainbow look pretty ?

Marina is from the Mirrors Collection and is a metallic blue steel.  There’s a LOT of subtlety going on here.  It’s got the same style of depth as Harley and the colour changes a lot in different lights.  I love it, but I’m not sure I’ll keep it, purely because I don’t wear many blues and I already have a lot of greys.  Which is a shame, cos this really is a winner.  It’s the colour of the storm-tossed seas, blue-infused pewter and warmed steel.  The blue actually gives it WARMTH and it’s at its best when it can’t decide if it’s blue or grey.

Tao is also from Mirrors and is a pretty standard medium metallic grey.  It’s nice (of course it is, it’s a Zoya) but for me it’s nothing special.  This is the one you go for if you want a polish the colour of steel.

Jo and I have played together before.  Zoya describe her as a delightful “periwinkle”; I just think she’s delightful.  The photo makes her look a bit more simple than she really is.  She’s a lovely bright cornflower blue but with oceans of shimmer which give her grey, lilac and other-worldly tones and depths.  I wore her on my toes last month and she looked a lot darker all the way down there, and almost like Caitlin’s first cousin.  Super pretty, and super girlie for a blue.

Kotori is one of Zoya’s best kept secrets.  From the Downtown Collection, it’s almost hard to believe this is a Zoya.  One of the things I love about Zoya is that they keep it simple and don’t go in for fads and effects – it’s all about the colour.  Well Kotori brings both of those worlds together.  A semi-sheer almost navy grey, (I needed 3 coats to get it opaque) this is crammed with Jo-coloured glittery sparkle which transforms and lightens it to a kaleidoscopic swirl.  There’s a lot of the peacock about this colour – and it sure does strut its stuff J

Finally, Cynthia, from Smoke.  Cynthia is a smokey dark teal – and teal is a colour I loathe (is it really so hard to decide if you’re blue or green, huh?).  It’s the smokiness that makes this one a winner – pulling the colour down to murky oily depths.  It goes on dark though.  I have seen some awesome photos of Cynthia, but in my room today, she just looks DARK.  I might have to experiment with thinner coats or just 1 thick coat to try and get the teal to sneak through.

And finally, some comparisons J  Enjoy – and have some nailtastic fun xx
