Glimmer by Erica - Rainbow Brite Collection, part 2

Yesterday I showed you 3 of the 5 polishes in Glimmer by Erica's Rainbow Brite Collection - here.  Today, we are going to look at the final 2, which were my favourite combinations of all of them - and get this, it's the green and the yellow!  I KNOW !!!

First up, we have the yellow polish, Canary Cheer.  I didn't really want to review it, but in a moment of devilment (knowing my hatred of yellow), Erica "insisted".  I thanked her.  Through  gritted teeth :)

Canary Cheer is a clear base with yellow hex glitter, the occasional large yellow flower and smatterings of silver glitter.  

With both of these polishes, I wanted to layer them over something unexpected, and with Hallowe'en looming, I used that as my colour inspiration.   CC is layered over the amazing KIKO 334 Dark Violet, so smooth and glorious.

I really liked the outrageousness of this combination.  Purple and yellow isn't a combination you often see, and believe me, NOBODY missed this the day I wore it lol.

And now for my very favourite combination - Punky Patty over OPI Kiss Me On The Tulips.

I don't know what it is, but there is just something about this combination that's just about perfect.  1 coat all over, except the ring finger which got 2.

Punky Patty took me by surprise actually.  As I'm sure you can imagine, I wasn't over excited about it, but it totally caught me unawares with its complexity.

I LOVE that it is smattered with yellow and blue glitter, just taking that green edge away and turning it into something all the more beautiful.

And then there's that accent finger.  This was 2 coats, so you can see how very quickly it builds.  Now, tell me that isn't the basis for a PERFECT mermaid mani?

So there we go.   Punky Patty my unexpected winner, with the purple one (Shrinking Violet) possibly struggling to even make the Top 3.   Hmmmmm, how the HELL did that happen.  Did these Rainbow Brite creatures have magical powers?

Glimmer By Erica - Rainbow Brite Collection Part 1 Swatch and Review

The lovely Erica sent me her latest collection to review, and before it even got to the UK, she'd released another lol.  So this is her not-brand-new-but-still-quite-new Collection, Rainbow Brite.

This is Erica's description of the Collection - 

Hey Ya'll! I am releasing my new collection today, it is based on five Rainbow Brite characters. I loved Rainbow Brite when I was a little girl and I thought it would be a perfect show to base a collection on! I am only doing five characters for the moment but if they do well I may add more. I know everyone is doing fall collections right now, but as I have always been unconventional I decided to do this one first. Plus, I am from Mississippi and it's still HOT down here! It doesn't feel like fall to me yet, so I will hold off on a fall collection for now. I will have one, just not when it's still triple digits where I live! =)

Being British, I had no idea what this meant lol, but the glory of Google enlightened me to some pony-type creatures :)

Today you get to see 3 polishes, and I am saving 2 for tomorrow, because I did slightly wild things with them :)

First up, we have Starlite Shine, another glitter-laden white polish.   You know my thoughts, they don't suit me, and there are already too many in the world lol.   

This one however does contain glitter in EVERY colour of the rainbow, making it a little different.  

I layered this over 2 coats of OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls, and then realised this might not give you a fair impression, because it left the glitter unlayered, so there are 2 coats of glitter on the thumb, middle and little fingers.

As you can probably guess, not for me, but lovely if you like this sort of polish.

Starlite Shine has a twin, Rainbow Sprinkles, which is the exact same polish, but in a clear base.

I layered this over 2 glorious coats of KIKO 387.  Although it's called Turquoise, it leans teal, but it made a perfect base for the glitter.

Why is it that multi-coloured glitter over a bluey colour always reminds me of glitterfish ?  Lol.  Lovely combo.

The final one today is unusual.  This is Shrinking Violet, the purple of the bunch, and therefore somewhat destined to be my favourite.

I didn't want to do the normal thing and layer it over purple or lilac, so in homage to Hallowe'en I layered it over a colour it shouldn't match - OPI Don't Talk Bach To Me.

These 2 colours clash beautifully.   For some reason, this really hasn't translated to the photos.  On the hand, this was a stunning and really arresting combination, but sadly the photos look rather ordinary.

All the polishes applied easily.  Although Erica's polishes have more than a bottle's worth of glitter in them, they are not a struggle to use, although you do really need to wipe the brush if you want a sparser look than the ones I've achieved.

31DC - Day 31 - Recreate Someone Else's Mani

Thank you, thank you, curtsies, thank you :)  Lol.  I know most of you don't know me for real, but I spend most of the day doing this - making up stupid words to well known songs. Beth has MANY bedtime songs based on Top 40 hits!!

So, from Week 1 I knew what today would be, but typically didn't manage to get it done until this weekend.  Rachel also did it here, and you can see Jin Jit's version here.

This is a Harlequin tape mani, sooooo stunning but boy so time consuming.  I've become quite adept at tape manis, but it took me by surprise how much more effort this one took.

To be fair, it probably wouldn't have taken a normal person so long, but I am very VERY clumsy, and my biggest fear was getting a nail perfect and then smudging it when I did the next one, so I top coated and waited til one nail was bone dry before moving on to the next.

For my base I used GOSH Holographic Hero, a birthday pressie from Kerrie.  I did 2 coats and then Poshe and waited a half hour or so before applying tape.  As I said above, I did one nail at a time.

For my brights, I used all OPI - Kiss Me On The Tulips, Don't Talk Bach To Me,  Roll In The Hague, and Fly, and I think the combination worked perfectly.

You'll notice this mani is far from perfect.   Some of the Hero lines could do with being re-emphasised, but I'm full of cold and sneezing and coughing, and I really thought that was a recipe for more disaster rather than improvement!   Also, the index nail is a bit "thick" - this is because I added new polish to the polish I used for the thumb.  Don't Do This!   It doesn't lead to success!

I hope you've enjoyed these 31 Days, I know I have.  I'm tempted to do a round-up post, but they take a long time, so it might not happen, but as always with these challenges, I really do feel it's pushed me and stretched me, and made me all the better for it.  I've also discovered at least a dozen great new blogs in the process, so make sure you click on the thumbnails, as there really are some blogs out there to treasure.
